trust God

Stephan JoubertThose guys who shave their heads, and those of us whose hair is getting less and less by the day, are making things easy for the heavens. There’s much less hair left on our heads to count. On a more serious note, Jesus says in Matthew 10:30 that God is so close to us that He even numbers the hairs on our heads. He also knows how many of those hairs fall out every day. If I can remember correctly, I read somewhere that a normal person loses as much as 150 per day. None of them escapes heaven’s attention.

Why do we receive such special attention? The answer’s simple. As followers of Jesus, we are God’s most-precious earthly assets. We are his handiwork. We are his permanent property. That’s why the Lord carries us around in his hand every day, as Jesus tells us in John 10:28-30. Absolutely nothing that happens in our lives ever escapes his attention. He hears every prayer that passes from our lips in the Name of his Son. He knows of every step that we give day after day. He is in attendance at every conversation that we have. Stephan JoubertIt’s not uncommon for us to be overly protective of those who are close to us. As parents we like to protect our kids from the rough edge of life. We also like to walk the extra mile for our friends. However, we can’t always be physically there for each other. And it’s surely also not the wisest thing to try and keep our loved ones from the adventure zones of life, since life is full of dangers, challenges, and surprises. Life doesn’t happen on some cloud, but right here in the real world. This side of the grave, life isn’t perfect.

Maybe our calling is rather to pray for those we love while they are living in the danger zones of life, than to try and keep them hidden away. We should rather keep their names in front of our Heavenly Father than try and keep them with us. We should trust God with their lives, and pray that He keeps them safe and on the wise paths. We need to trust God to guide us and our loved ones in life and death.
